Denisa moved from Production to become an Health and Safety Assistant in 2016 and quickly showed an aptitude for learning and development. Denisa secured a position as a Learning and Development Coordinator in 2017 and the Company is now using its Apprentice Levy to fund Denisa’s level 3 Apprenticeship qualification in learning and development which will support her in her objective to become an Learning and Development professional.

Ryan left school and joined Burts as a Technical Apprentice in July 2017 and has thrived under the tutelage of his line manager and has recently completed his level 3 Food Industry Apprenticeship. Ryan has proved a real asset to the business and in June 2018 Ryan was awarded Duchy College top Apprentice in “Food and Drink Manufacturing. In support of his potential and commitment the Company will continue to employ Ryan following his enrolment onto a distance learning part-time degree level qualification with Lincoln University in food studies and will hold a position open as a Technical Assistant for when he completed his studies.

Jon-Ryan Oakes
Engineering Apprentice, studying towards Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Maintenance Engineer.
Jon-Ryan Oakes joined in the business as an Engineering Apprentice and spent most of his level 2 Apprenticeship studying mechanical engineering at College, working for Burts during term breaks. Since then Jon Ryan has returned the Company’s investment in full through demonstrating a good work ethic and hard work and being very flexible and for this reason the Company has supported his progression to a level 3 Apprenticeship qualification which is funded through the Apprentice Levy.

Shift Engineer – Days/Nights alternating
Hours of work – 06:00-18:00 / 18:00-06:00, LOCATION: leicester
ROLE PURPOSE:
Ensure that all equipment is maintained in line with manufacturer’s recommendations and repaired when necessary to be available and fit for their purpose during production time.
That the entire working and manufacturing environment conforms to the requirements of health and safety, food hygiene, factory, environmental and other food industry regulations and statutes.
All aspects of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, heating, refrigeration, water, civil (building), waste disposal, environmental and food process engineering.
Installation, maintenance and commissioning of new plant/machinery.
Their repair selection and supervision of contractors; adherence to health and safety codes; co-ordination and management of all engineering work and having a close working relationship with Production and other Burts functions.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for maintaining a clean, tidy and secure workshop environment.
Maintain a full inventory of tools per engineers’ toolbox which are routinely checked for integrity and cleanliness.
Issue the relevant permits to contractors for the specific task being carried out
Execute the day-to-day tasks on the Workmate system meeting the target workload
Monitoring, recording and controlling all engineering work to ensure that it conforms to the highest standards consistent with cost and all food safety, hygiene, quality, health and safety, along with standards and customer expectations.
Adherence to the planned maintenance schedules for all major plant, machinery, equipment and buildings and ensuring that productions is given notice of all planned work.
Liaising closely with all the relevant departments to provide an engineering service that helps to deliver an excellent level of customer service and conformance to customer expectations and statutory requirements.

Site Scheduler & Materials Controller
40hr wk. Mon-Fri: 08:30-16:30, LOCATION: plymouth
JOB PURPOSE:
To create and maintain production schedules in order to ensure that Customer demand is achieved in the most efficient and cost effective way. To develop the correct raw material delivery flow to site to enable the production schedule to be achieved and inventory levels optimised.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review upload of the 4 week rolling Production plan for Material stock requirements and quickly sense check capacity, highlighting any changes if relevant.
Place consumable material purchase orders on suppliers to acquire materials in line with agreed procurement specifications, pricing, lead times and shelf life, to deliver the short term Production plan. (3 months)
Ensure materials are called to site in the most cost effective way, taking into account economies of order scale, balanced with storage costs, while minimising wastage levels and obsolescence.
Raise weekly WO’s and produce weekly achievable and efficient production Schedule with correct volumes and specific requirements.
Raise material call offs and define a materials delivery schedule which supports the production schedule, taking account of any planned material changes and ensure timely arrivals of raw materials into the factory to avoid operational downtime.
Daily Modification of production schedules due to changing circumstances within the manufacturing site.
Provide monthly OTIF report to procurement team, including any suppler issues.
Issue copy of schedule to the FG warehouse team for outbound volume and transport planning purposes.
Attend NPD meetings to ensure understanding of forthcoming launches in order to complete on time in full and provide material stockholding information when required.
Manage vendor performance and main point of contact for issue escalation
Attend MUV meetings and support process improvements to reduce MUV
Create weekly reports on Production activities and effectiveness

Warehouse Operative Skilled
40hr wk. Mon-Fri: 0800-1600, LOCATION: plymouth
JOB PURPOSE:
To Support the warehouse department to ensure it runs effectively and smoothly.
KEY ACCOUNTABLITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To assist with the loading and unloading of vehicles.
To manage the waste streams within the business.
Understand the principles of MUV.
To be able to book Potato & Oil deliveries onto Access correctly.
Ability to cover holiday and Sickness.
To be able to Issue Consumables to production correctly.
To record materials on the QMS004 receipt log correctly.
To be able to manage the QMS303 and control the over runs
correctly.
Assist in handling the pallet deliveries coming into the business.
Understand the adjustment codes and the authorisation levels.
Manage the delivery booking in calendar.
Any other reasonable duty required to benefit the department.

Hygiene Operative
40HR WK. Mon-Fri: 14:00-22:00 with a paid break of 30 minutes per 8 hour shift, LOCATION: plymouth
JOB PURPOSE:
Burts Snacks manufactures snacks and hand-cooked crisps and so hygiene and cleanliness is of critical importance. This Hygiene Operative role involves cleaning the factory areas and peripheral areas in accordance with the cleaning schedule.
The areas to be covered include the: Frying Hall, Packing Halls, Seasoning Gantry Peripheral Areas, Male and Female changing areas, staff canteen, Corridors, Locker Rooms, Main Staff Entrance and Stairways.
Due to the specialist nature of this cleaning role we are looking for someone with industrial cleaning experience preferably in a Food Manufacturing Environment.
KEY / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:
Cleaning and mopping floors of factory, entrance, stairs and corridors
Emptying of bins cleaning external skip area and potato plant
Mopping floors in toilets & changing rooms
Clean sinks in toilets and cleaning toilets and urinals
Mopping of canteen floors
Cleaning of tables, chairs, work surfaces, cupboards and microwaves in canteen including stairs
Factory Cleaning walls /doors in corridors in accordance with the cleaning schedule
Replenishing consumables – hairnets, gloves and ear plugs
Replenish cleaning 20KG chemical drums at the factory cleaning stations and dishwashers.
IPAF Push Along Vertical (PAV) training will be delivered, if the successful applicant doesn’t have a current licence. Chemical Awareness Training will also be provided.

Accountant
40hrs a week, LOCATION: plymouth
JOB PURPOSE:
Working as part of a busy Finance team for a fast-paced FMCG Company, post holder mainly responsible for treasury function, and providing support to the financial accounting team. They will assist with administration, office support and ad-hoc reporting as required. The post holder must have excellent Microsoft office and excel skills. They have a can-do attitude, are customer focused and a team player. They should be part-qualified CIMA/ ACCA.
MAIN DUTIES / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Treasury management and daily cash flow forecasting.
Bank reconciliations.
Key balance sheet reconciliations.
VAT returns.
Completing statutory government returns.
Assist with accounting for Irish subsidiary and ensure all intercompany transactions are processed correctly.
Assist with production of monthly management accounts.
Assist with monthly budget monitoring, and providing financial support to budget holders.
Assist with production of annual budgets.
Assist with production of annual statutory accounts.
Administration, office support and ad-hoc reporting as required.
Other reasonable duties as required.
EXPERIENCE + QUALIFICATIONS:
Ideally experience working for Manufacturer or FMCG Company.
They should be part-qualified CIMA or ACCA.
Proficient in the use of Accounting software packages.
Knowledge of Access software desirable.
Good general IT skills – Excel to intermediate/advanced level.

DAYTIME. Shift Pattern: 06:00 – 18:00, Mon - Wed and 12 hours every fourth Sunday, LOCATION: plymouth
JOB SUMMARY:
To operate the plant in accordance with stated procedure and ensure that production plans are met and to carry out tasks in the Factory as required. To ensure that all aspects of the stated operations agenda are met with regard to Profit, Quality, Risk, Supply and Team development.
The work takes place in a factory on a production line and involves manual work. Post-holders spend considerable periods of time standing while operating machinery and are required to wear protective clothing, such as overalls and safety shoes, which are provided.
The role may be suitable for someone with good practical skills, who works quickly and accurately, is a good team-worker and is able to concentrate over long periods. New recruits will have basic numeracy and English Language skills and will be able to follow safety and hygiene instructions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential –
Numeracy and English language skills, which will be tested at interview.
No formal qualifications are needed Skills.
Good practical skills.
Ability to work quickly and methodically.
Good team-working skills.
Ability to concentrate while doing repetitive tasks.
