Denisa moved from Production to become an Health and Safety Assistant in 2016 and quickly showed an aptitude for learning and development. Denisa secured a position as a Learning and Development Coordinator in 2017 and the Company is now using its Apprentice Levy to fund Denisa’s level 3 Apprenticeship qualification in learning and development which will support her in her objective to become an Learning and Development professional.

Ryan left school and joined Burts as a Technical Apprentice in July 2017 and has thrived under the tutelage of his line manager and has recently completed his level 3 Food Industry Apprenticeship. Ryan has proved a real asset to the business and in June 2018 Ryan was awarded Duchy College top Apprentice in “Food and Drink Manufacturing. In support of his potential and commitment the Company will continue to employ Ryan following his enrolment onto a distance learning part-time degree level qualification with Lincoln University in food studies and will hold a position open as a Technical Assistant for when he completed his studies.

Jon-Ryan Oakes joined in the business as an Engineering Apprentice and spent most of his level 2 Apprenticeship studying mechanical engineering at College, working for Burts during term breaks. Since then Jon Ryan has returned the Company’s investment in full through demonstrating a good work ethic and hard work and being very flexible and for this reason the Company has supported his progression to a level 3 Apprenticeship qualification which is funded through the Apprentice Levy.

Paula joined the business late in 2016 as a HR & Payroll Administrator. She now coordinates the payroll for the dual site as well as providing HR support to the business. Paula has shown herself to be a very capable member of the team with potential to progress to a more senior position and the Company is supporting her with her continuous professional development. Alannah joined the Company in October 2015 as a Receptionist. She expressed an interest in moving to the Finance team and acquired a position as a trainee in the Finance team in 2017. Following her appointment Alannah completed her level 2 AAT exams in an impressively short period of time scoring an impressive 98% in one exam. After leaving school after her A Levels, Eilish spent 6 years working for Dartington Hall Trust whilst studying towards her accounting qualification, attaining her level 4 Diploma in Accounting just before joining Burts as a Credit Controller. Eilish has thrived in this FMCG environment and has shown great potential and commitment to the business and to her own development. Shortly after completing his Marketing qualification, Ben joined Burts in 2017 on a temporary contract as a Marketing Assistant. He supported the team with events, design work and NPD and undertook competitor analysis. Ben started to demonstrate an aptitude for Sales and was recently appointed to a permanent role with the Company as a Commercial Executive supporting Burts Retail Sales team, along with supporting the social media aspect of the business where he continues to be developed.

Quality Assurance Technician
Full Time, LOCATION: plymouth
Average of 39 hours per week, Thursday to Saturday 6am-6pm plus every fourth Sunday
The role may be suitable for someone with good practical skills, who works quickly and accurately, is a good team-worker and is able to concentrate over long periods.
Successful applicants will:
Demonstrate commitment and passion for the job
Actively take part in daily/weekly GMP audit activity with shift manager
Ensure all equipment is cleaned in line with relevant CIC/SOP
Ensure work achieved and services provided are to the highest of standards
Have previous experience of quality assurance in a FMCG
Liaise with customers regarding quality control visits

Full Time, LOCATION: plymouth
40 hours per week, to include some Sundays to support the Maintenance Shift
The role requires a broad range of experience across the many Facilities disciplines, with time in a similar role desirable. Our successful candidate will be critical in ensuring that the fabric of the building and site services are maintained and that relevant compliance checks are completed. Good, general electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance knowledge is essential.
Duties will include:
- Maintain all lighting and emergency lighting, documenting tests and carrying out remedial works as required.
- Carry out minor amendments to electrical circuits, replace faulty electrical hardware.
- Carry out routine water checks and tasks to comply with Approved Code of Practice L8. Assist contractors with same.
- Maintain plumbing and drainage across the site.
- Carry out painting/decorating, minor building repairs and general maintenance tasks as required
- Review and interpret audit findings, including Building Fabric and Field Biologist reports and carry out remedial works, liaising with Engineering manager as required.
- Carry out planned maintenance tasks as issued, documenting all findings.
- Assist with projects and the installation and commissioning of new plant
